Ecclesiastes: Life Under the Sun

Our Want Of Wisdom (Ecclesiastes 6:10-12)

The Affliction of Riches (Ecclesiastes 6:1-9)

An examination of someone who is given riches, wealth, and honor but not given the ability to enjoy those riches. Solomon’s concluding thoughts on wealth and riches. An exposition of Ecclesiastes 6:1-9.

The Gift of Enjoyment (Ecclesiastes 5:18-20)

Solomon encourages us to enjoy the simple and everyday gifts that God has given to us. This enjoyment is the reward for our toil and a gift from God. An exposition of Ecclesiastes 5:18-20.

Two Grievous Evils (Ecclesiastes 5:13-17)

Solomon describes two grievous evils: riches hoarded and riches lost. An exposition of Ecclesiastes 5:13-17.

The Failure of Riches (Ecclesiastes 5:10-12)

Vanity vexes the rich as well as the poor. The rich have their own problems and Solomon describes some of them. Riches fail to provide satisfaction, security or sleep. An exposition of Ecclesiastes 5:10-12.

Officials Over Officials Watching Officials (Ecclesiastes 5:8-9)

Solomon observes that the poor are oppressed by government officials who are protected by yet higher and higher levels of government officials. Indeed, everyone in the administration has a vested interest in taking from others. An exposition of Ecclesiastes 5:8-9.

Pay What You Vow (Ecclesiastes 5:4-7)

Wisdom from Solomon on a third aspect of worship – making and keeping vows. An exposition of Ecclesiastes 5:4-7.

Jim Osman was born in May of 1972 and has lived in Sandpoint since he was 3 years old. He achieved his life’s ambition by graduating from Sandpoint High School in 1990. Jim came to know Christ through the ministry of Cocolalla Lake Bible Camp. Kootenai Community Church has always been his home church, attending Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Youth Group.

After graduating from High School, he attended Millar College of the Bible in Pambrun, Saskatchewan. It was at Bible College that Jim met his wife to be, Diedre, who was also enrolled as a student. Jim graduated with a three year diploma in April of 1993 and married Diedre in August of that same year. He returned to Millar to further his education in September of 1994 and graduated from the Fourth Year Internship Program with a Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Ministries in April of 1995.

Jim and Diedre returned to Sandpoint where Jim began working in construction and as a Roofing Materials Application Specialist (roofer) until he was asked to take over as the Preaching Elder of Kootenai Community Church in December of 1996. Now he counts it as his greatest privilege to be involved in ministering in the Church that ministered to him for so many years. It has been a great adventure!
