Event Details

On any given week, countless Christians gather and participate in strange practices they believe are true expressions of the power of God. From speaking in tongues to attempting to raise the dead, Charismatic Christians think they’re participating in modern miracles.

But are these miracles real? Are the Apostolic sign gifts in operation today? The Kootenai Chuch Cessationist conference will lovingly and carefully attempt to answer these important questions by exposing the errors and building a positive case for the real work of the Holy Spirit today. The real gift of the Spirit is far more necessary and powerful than many imagine.

Conference speakers include Jim Osman, Justin Peters, John Samson, John Reuther, Dan Phillips, Kevin Hay, Andrew Rappaport, and more.

  • Dan Phillips

    Dan Phillips

    Pastor/Teacher, Copperfield Bible Church

The Lord saved Dan in 1973, when he was deeply involved in a cult (read Dan’s testimony here). Dan began training for pastoral ministry not long after conversion which, after taking him through various training institutes, culminated in 1983 with a Master of Divinity from Talbot Theological Seminary.

After that, he taught at Talbot and other Bible institutes and colleges, and has pastored at various times from 1984 on.   Dan married Valerie Phillips in March of 1989.  They have four children: Rachael, Matthew, Josiah and Jonathan.

Dan’s ministry at CBC marks his return to full-time pastoral work after a hiatus working in the IT world. Dan appreciates the insight that this has given into the lives and schedules led by most of those he serves. In the interim, Dan developed an online blogging ministry including the popular Pyromaniacs blog.

In 2011 two of Dan’s books were published: The World-Tilting Gospel and God’s Wisdom in Proverbs.  Dan was installed as pastor on March 18, 2012.

Jim Osman was born in May of 1972 and has lived in Sandpoint since he was 3 years old. He achieved his life’s ambition by graduating from Sandpoint High School in 1990. After graduating from High School, he attended Millar College of the Bible in Pambrun, Saskatchewan. It was at Bible College that Jim met his wife-to-be, Diedre, who was also enrolled as a student. • John Reuther

    John Reuther

Pastor/Teacher Covenant Baptist Church / Lecturer, Reformed Baptist Seminary

John was converted from Roman Catholicism at nineteen years of age. He had been searching for answers in his Catholic High School and began to read the Bible. When he enrolled as a music student at Montclair State College in NJ he was blessed to meet evangelical Christians who invited him to church services where he eventually became assured that he was saved by the grace of God through repentance and faith in the finished work of Christ.

John received his BA at Northeastern Bible College, in 1977, and his MDiv at Biblical Theological Seminary, Hatfield, PA (now Missio Seminary, Philadelphia), in 1984. He has been pastoring Covenant Baptist Church in Lumberton NJ since 1985. In 1975, he spent a summer in Japan and has always had a heart for missionary work. God has given him many opportunities to teach theology on the mission field.

  • John Samson

    John Samson

    Pastor/Teacher, King's Church

John Samson is the founding pastor-teacher of King’s Church in Peoria, Arizona, as well as an author and conference speaker. He has a passion for the local Church and for the free offer of the gospel to be proclaimed far and wide. Inspired by a deep desire to proclaim the truth of the Bible without compromise, John is known for his simple, down-to-earth, verse-by-verse, expositional preaching. His passion is to proclaim God as He really is, and the Gospel as it really is, believing that it is impossible to have one without the other. In light of this, he is happy to affirm historic creeds and confessions of the Church as well as the Five Solas of the Reformation and the Doctrines of Grace.

John was born and raised in the historic city of Chester, England, situated around 20 miles south of Liverpool. Chester was originally founded as a Roman fort under the name Deva Victrix in the year 79 AD during the reign of Emperor Vespasian.

Graduating from the Regents Theological College in England in 1987, John began his ministry as the Associate of the late Harry Greenwood. For many years John hosted a live 2-hour Christian television program on the Trinity Broadcasting Network as well as a 30-minute daily Bible teaching radio broadcast, “the Spirit of Faith,” covering central Arizona. Since then, the Lord in His great kindness has brought John out of much theological error and deception.

June 2022 marked 35 years in Christian ministry for John. Sensing God’s call to live and serve in the USA is very much a long-term assignment, John became a full USA citizen in February 2003.

John is the author of two books published by Solid Ground Christian Books – Twelve What Abouts – Answering Common Objections Concerning God’s Sovereignty in Election has been widely distributed, helping many come to a new and fresh understanding of the grace of God and The Five Solas – Standing Together, Alone.

Justin Peters was born and reared in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1995 and then earned two degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2000 and 2002. It was not until he was a preacher, though, that God brought him to genuine faith in Christ.

Though his first commitment is to expository preaching (verse by verse expounding of the biblical text), he is most known for his seminar entitled Clouds Without Water which is a biblical critique of the Word-Faith movement. As a full-time evangelist, Justin has preached in churches and seminaries in 42 states and 23 countries. In addition to his preaching ministry, Justin hosts a daily radio program and is the author of Do Not Hinder Them: A Biblical Examination of Childhood Conversion.
